Podil is rightly considered to be one of the most popular districts in Kiev. During its lifetime it was destroyed several times. Catherine II planned to demolish it. In 1811 a huge fire burnt down most of the buidings in Podil. The flood waters of the Dnieper River owerflowed onto Podil streets. But this district is immortal.
